How to pack for your summer holiday

By How to, Latest Articles, Personal Style, Style Tips

Let me ask you – what kind of holiday packer are you?

Select from the below and hit reply to let me know:

A: P.A.N.I.C ‘I’VE GOT NOTHING TO WEAR, BUY EVERYTHING.

B: Night before you travel –  throw everything into the bag, well 3 bags

C: Very minimal and then you arrive on holiday and you have to live in the same outfit all week (my husband!).

D: Other – what’s your particular packing behaviour?

I used to be B, packing 15 pairs of shoes for a weeks holiday, every piece of jewellery under the sun and no forward thinking.

However, after 7 years of running my business and helping many of my clients to get ready for their holdiays, my packing process has become more refined.

In fact, this newsletter is inspired by my clients Fiona & Lucy and the steps I helped them take to get ready for their summer holidays.

Here are my top tips, which I hope help you too:

1. DONT PANIC, JUST PLAN, tell yourself you probably have more of the correct clothes than you realise – take a breath.

2. WRITE A LIST of the types of occassions you will have when there (3 x dinner out/5 x by beach/2 x travel days etc).

3. PULL OUT THE ITEMS YOU WANT TO TAKE and set to one side. Note the colours, do they compliment each other? Anything that doesn’t don’t pack it.

4. DONT FORGET MULTI PURPOSE ITEMS
Linen shirt that can also be undone and used as a cover up
Cashmere jumper for flight and around shoulder for cooler evenings
Cycling shorts for holiday workouts and under shorter tunics
Swimsuit as a body in the evenings
Scarf for travelling and the beach

5. SHOES THAT GO WITH EVERYTHING keep it neutral with creams, tans and metallic. A pop of neon or pink can also be a surprising neutral!

6. MAKE A KEY MISSING ITEMS LIST
Swimwear?
Linen Shirt?
Dress?
Sunglasses?
Don’t try order all at once but focus one by one.

7. JEWELLERY & BAGS, your accessories can take a plain dress and really make it feel special for the evening.

8. CARE FOR YOUR CLOTHES. I love these packing cubes to help me stay organised (but handbag dust bags also great) and a hand held steamer is a travel must for me.
